Paradise Found

Subtitle: Mexico, A Photo Essay

Bert and I have returned from 5 nights in paradise. For our 6-year anniversary and my 30th birthday, we took our biggest trip ever - to the fabulous Excellence Playa Mujeres. This resort is 20-30 minutes from Cancun and is the most beautiful place I have ever been. The food, the service, the resort, the pools - all five star. Below are some of the highlights!

This was the view outside of our amazing room. If you looked to the right, you could see the ocean.

We were greeted with this big beautiful bed. All the rosepetals, swans, etc. were because we were there for our anniversary. The room also featured a HUGE shower (two showerheads!), sitting area, jacuzzi and outdoor bed on the balcony.

One day, Bert and I went to Tulum to see Mayan Ruins. We were told the ruins overlooked the 2nd most beautiful beach in the world. Indeed, the water was turquoise.

Above is another view of Tulum. Yes, I took this photograph. Every picture was a postcard. We went on this tour with the cutest couple ever - Roberto and Asusana. I will post a picture; Roberto is sending us one. They were a newlywed couple in their 40s. SO in love and sweet.

This was the building where they used to do human sacrifices. Our guide, Oscar, told us to rent Apocalypto. He said it was 65% true.

This is us outside of Spice, an Asian restaurant at the resort. YUM. Every meal was divine.

This was at our anniversary table at Barcelona, a Mediterranean restaurant. Ooh-wee, I would love some of those chicken and scallops and creme brulee'. Yes, I gained at least 1 pound. Perhaps 2. It was worth it.

I love this picture of Bert in one of the pools. It sums up our sheer joy.

Look at the view of this other pool. It was amazingly beautiful. The grounds were immaculate.

The ocean was so clear (green and blue) that I could see my feet.

Bert on the beach at the resort. One day we also went sailing...so much fun.

There were lots of iguanas!

Here we are with Kristen and Jeremy, a sweet couple from Louisiana. We had fun hanging out with them at the nightly shows.

Speaking of shows...here was a picture of 70s and 80s night. The guys above are dressed as the Village People and are performing "Macho Man." I got so excited that Bert said I would never be allowed to go to a male strip club.

There were bands that played here in the evenings. We even got in a little dancing. It was just perfect.

It was a wonderful trip. Besides the photos above, we also went to Market 28, where we bought some gorgeous Mexican pottery. The entire trip was so amazing that it's hard to put it into words. The people at the resort were so gracious; in fact, everyone we met in Mexico was amazing. Bert and I both came home with a love for Mexico and its people.

The trip was a dream.

4th of July at the Lake

Bert and I had the best 4th of July! We celebrated with friends at Lake Sinclair. From eating brick-oven pizza (where the photos above were taken) to spending two days on the lake (thank goodness for sunscreen) to eating truly shameful amounts of food, we had an incredible weekend.

We capped off the weekend with a low country boil (yay for turkey sausage!) at an event with Jews, Christians and Muslims. To me, THAT'S America.

Thanks goodness for good friends!

Happy Birthday, Sara!

Happy Birthday to my baby sister! Even thought she is 27 years old today, in my heart, she will always be 6 years old playing Barbie Swimming Pool with me.

Last night, Bert and I laughed for a good 15 minutes about one of Sara's original poems from elementary school. Here's our favorite part:

Blue, orange - what's the difference?
I think colors need a reference.

I love this.

Circa 1984...I love this picture of us.

I love you, Sara, and hope that you have a wonderful day! I will always be your big sister and I will always look out for you. Happy, happy birthday.

And us today...with her precious baby girl.
