Randomness

Life has been a little on the random side for the past 12-15 hours. Here's the rundown:

Thursday, August 30
5:15 p.m. - Leave work for Belk to buy Bobbi Brown eye brightener under the advice of Heather. My friend literally thought I had a BLACK EYE Monday in class, so I decided to try some new concealer.

5:30 p.m. - Approach Bobbi Brown counter and ask sales lady about eye brightener. She informs me that my under eye circles are too severe and that I will need the corrector AND concealer.

5:35 p.m. - Bobbi Brown Lady (BBL) asks if she can do a makeover. I oblige...Bert has Open House, so I have time to kill.

7:15 p.m. - Makeover is finally over, praise the Lord. I come to find out about BBL's entire life and figure out that she just started at Bobbi and so she needed someone to practice on.

7:20 p.m. - Purchase corrector and bronzer. Head home, grateful BBL was not pushy.

7:30 p.m. - Catch up with Washington, DC BFF Amber.

8:30 p.m. - Get ready to go out to watch the Mississippi State game. Freshen up after makeover and put on MS State t-shirt.

9:15 p.m. - Bert and I meet friends at WOW (World of Wings). Laugh when LSU friend accidentally wears maroon.

9:30 p.m. - Order kid's cheeseburger after asking Chris, our server, "Is it bigger than Krystal?" He responds yes.

10:00 p.m. - MS State is getting killed by LSU. I am feeling depressed and yet at the same time realize that I have really only watched a total of 30 seconds of the game even though I have been facing a television for two hours.

11:00 p.m. - Go home, 45 points and 6 interceptions later. It is so hard to be a Bulldog.

Friday, August 31 a.k.a. Payday :)
4:00 a.m. - Wake up, am convinced am having heart attack. Realize Bert fell asleep on couch watching TV and go get him, thinking to myself that I almost died and he wouldn't have even known. Am too sleepy to think any further. Am so happy that I don't have to pee.

7:30 a.m. - Wake up again, late as usual. Happy to be alive.

7:50 a.m. - Realize iron is not working.

8:15 a.m. - Put on new dress because it doesn't need ironing. Enjoy new Bobbi make-up.

8:30 a.m. - Get to work, happy it's Friday. A little sad that I don't get a lunch today due to a meeting, but happy that little fact bought me 30 minutes in the morning.

9:30 a.m. - Compulsiveness demands above events be chronicled for your reading pleasure.

Time To Diet

My stomach hurts today.

Is it because I ate 600 calories worth of candy yesterday?

Nah, that couldn't be it.

Overpopulation

For my job, I am auditing the Ecological Basis for Environmental Issues undergraduate course. Yes, I feel old and have tried to dress really young on days I know I am going to class. So far, so good. No one has called me ma'am. However, the professor knows me by name in this class of 300 and I sit with the TAs from my department, so I am guessing no one thinks I am 18.

Anyway, there was something so incredible that I learned in class today that I had to share it with all of you. If the world's population keeps growing at the same exponential rate, there will be 36 billion people on our planet by 2100. This is not good, people. We do not have the resources to sustain this.

The answer to this dilemma? Family planning.

And the cost to provide birth control to everyone across the world? 90 cents per day for every US taxpayer.

But, Anisa! That would be over $300 per year for me!

Well, did you know that you are already paying $115.20 per day to support the Iraq war? And $4.38 per day for the national debt?

This really concerns me because in other countries - and even our own - people are not planning their families due to financial reasons. Many people cannot afford birth control like most of you readers can. We are able to plan our families and decide on how many children we want to have...that is not the situation for everyone.

Anyway, I just felt the need to educate everyone on these alarming statistics! I truly had no idea.

Country Came To Town

Yesterday, Bert and I went to see the third installment of "Pirates of the Caribbean" at the dollar movie theater here. First of all, I forgot that I don't like these movies...but that was not the big problem. The problem was that some people just act ridiculous at the movies!

Take for example the 350 pound woman in the front row. She spoke at a loud speaking voice during the movie, which drove me crazy. At one point, she yelled to the people in the row behind her if they would go get a refill of her jumbo size popcorn for her. It was unreal. Unreal.

And then there was the little boy about three rows behind us. He talked the entire movie, loudly. He would say things like, "Kill them, already!" and "Why don't they just kill them?" and his dad (or perhaps grandfather) would not tell him to shut up. And Bert was not too thrilled when I tried to tell the little boy to shut up.

And so, I was sitting there, fuming, over the lady in the front row and the loud children - I mean, come on, people...a three hour movie and you bring your kids? It makes no sense. And then, Bert leaned over to me and said, "Baby, what is that phrase you are always saying about this type of thing...country come to town or something?"

I laughed so hard. That was exactly it.

And so, that was my Saturday afternoon.

Frantic

Our cat Matty loves to lay in the paper recycling bin. But instead of laughing at something silly he had done, I spent an hour last night running up and down the street sobbing.

Around 8:00 pm last night, Bert and I went outside to relax on our new outdoor swing. I left the back door cracked. After about 30 minutes, we went back inside. It wasn't until 10:00 pm that I said to Bert that we hadn't seen Matty. We called for him and assumed he was asleep on our bed, one of his favorite places. He always comes...but not this time.

We both jumped up as Bert said Matty must have gotten outside. He told me when we came back in the house the back door was open - not cracked. And our glass screen door doesn't shut all the way. Matty had escaped. He is an indoor cat and I was petrified of what could happen to him. I was grateful I don't believe in declawing so at least he had the means to protect himself. Still, I was frantic.

I went through the entire house, hoping he had accidentally gotten shut in a closet. I checked every closet, under the beds, screaming for him and crying the entire time. Bert was outside and I decided that I would go out as well. Mascara ran down my face and I threw on my hot pink shoes with my pajamas. I looked ridiculous, but I did not care. I was praying the entire time, begging God to bring my little boy home. I was hysterical. By this time, it was around 10:30 pm, and I knocked on neighbor's doors who had lights on. One girl even came outside to help me.

I yelled at the top of my lungs for him, not caring who it might wake. My baby boy was missing. My adorable Mattingly...

Bert was standing in our backyard ringing the bells of Matty's favorite toys. He went down the street to look some more and I waited in the backyard. I looked inside the house, thinking how I missed Matty laying in the recycling bin. How I missed him snuggling with me and the crazy stuff he does. I thought about how empty the house would seem without him there.

"Noo-Noo, Mommy misses you!" I sobbed and yelled inside the house. (Noo-Noo is my main nickname for him these days.)

Meow.

Had I imagined it?

I turned around, and there he was, walking towards me from the backyard. I scooped him up in my arms, still sobbing.

Needless to say, Matty got fresh water and wet food last night. He even got to sleep in the bed with us.

I have felt so much love for that little creature, more than I ever knew was possible for an animal. He has been a miracle cat since the day he came home. I thank God for helping my little baby find his way back to us...twice.

I'm Hot For Teacher

Here are some pictures from Bert's classroom. I decided to use all my skills from pretending to be a teacher as a little kid and help Bert decorate. I am thrilled about how it turned out!

So true...

I am so proud of how the bulletin board turned out!

Yeah, I'm definitely hot for Teacher...

The kids have to read every Wednesday as part of a school rule and I think the reading area looks great...

I love how Bert displays his student's artwork. The kids adore him.

Bert teaches Algebra and Pre-Algebra...we found some great posters. The kids have been so complimentary of the room!

No Longer a Newlywed

Happy Anniversary, Bert! I love you so much and each and every year is better than the one before. I cannot believe it has been three years. Sometimes it feels like just yesterday we met; other times it feels as though I have known you for many lifetimes. I am a better person after each day I spend with you. Thank you for being you and loving me so much. You are my heart.

I can't wait to spend many evenings on our new swing talking about everything and nothing. I say it every year, and I will say it again. I am the luckiest. I guess this is when you become not a newlywed...and since each year gets better, that is more than fine with me!

Lots of love.

Post Secret

Every Sunday morning (or in today's case, afternoon), I wander to the couch in my pajamas and look at the new secrets on Post Secret.

This week, there is a mini video, which is moving and a great intro if you have never seen this web site. Millions of people mail in secrets that they have never told anyone else and 20 are chosen for the web site. There have also been books published. It is truly an amazing web site that I have been visiting every Sunday for years. Enjoy.

Just A Swingin'

Bert and I bought this swing yesterday and I am so excited. Today, he will go pick it up and put it together! I think it will be especially nice as the weather gets cooler. This is what we have decided to get each other for our anniversary (August 14) and I think it's perfect.

If any of you are interested in new patio furniture, head to Home Depot and take advantage of their super sale (50% of all patio furniture) while supplies last! We just went to look, but had our eyes on this swing for a while and had no idea of the amazing sale going on. Hint: although signs say 50% off all patio furniture everywhere, their stuff is not ringing up that way. You have to tell them that their signs say it's all 50% off.

I think it's weird how patio furniture is for the "summer" when it's blistering hot and lots of stores only stock sunglasses and floor fans in the summer. However, I guess that means all this stuff should be on sale and that's a good thing!
